Ian and I have just had an amazing week in the Masai Mara, Kenya brate my 50th birthday. The trip was run by two world renowned wildlife photographers, Daryl and Sharna Balfour – you may remember the television programme ‘Big Cat Dairy’ well these two were some of the guys who brought the series to our screen. I could go on for ages about this safari and the amazing team of 26 that looked after just 10 of us, you will get a good idea of if you check out their website www.wildphotossafaris.com
The week was packed full of amazing safaris, i mean real safaris not ‘pussy’ cat ones – to be honest if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with some cute animals thrown in then this is not the trip for you. This was a trip where you need a holiday to recover from all the activities and excitement – I’d 100% recommend it to anyone that wants a holiday where you don’t stand still – except for taking that perfect photo.
Talking about photos, well we tallied up over six and a half thousand between us and I’ve just finished sorting them out and have a really nice collection of 2,400 in an album – hopefully I have plenty of painting reference to work from – but which animal should i paint first.
We saw everything we had hoped to see and lots more, I just cannot tell you what was my favourite moment or animal – just awesome! My head is just spinning with the experience, something I will never forget.
We learnt so much about the animal behaviour, the history of the prides that live in the Mara, we experienced some sad moments, some very cruel (but that is the circle of life in Africa) and so much more along with some real helpful photography tips.
Just a few snaps of the animal we saw on the Mara (of course the pics are not my best ones as that will ruin the surprise when i get round to painting them)
